Trinity
Lutheran Church is located at the intersection of Penn and
Juliana Streets in the heart of historic Bedford, Pennsylvania.
Trinity Lutheran Church
is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America,
Allegheny Synod. Formally organized in 1769, we have been
sharing a Christian witness to the Bedford Community for well
over two centuries.
For its first half-century,
the Lutherans joined with the Reformed congregations in Bedford
to build a small log church on the present site of St. Johns
United Church of Christ. The congregation gathered on the
buildings dirt floor, heated only by an open fireplace
and lighted by oil lamps and candles. In 1823, this union
congregation built its first brick church.
The Lutherans voted to
erect their own church building in 1847, building it upon
Trinitys present site on the Bedford Public Square.
That building was damaged severely by fire and replaced with
the current edifice in 1870. A Christian Education wing was
added and dedicated in 1930, and was expanded
in 2004 to meet the growing needs of our congregation and
greater community.
Today, Trinity Lutheran
Church is a congregation of approximately 1,000 baptized Christians.
They, and many others, gather frequently for worship, study,
fellowship, and Christian Service.
WE BELIEVE:
- In the life, death, and resurrection of
our Lord, Jesus Christ, God has declared His love for all
creation.
- Scripture is the Word of God.
- Through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism,
in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, God forgives
us our sin, delivers us from death and unites us with His
Church.
- In the Sacrament of Holy Communion, we
receive the true Body and Blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ,
our sin is forgiven, and we are strengthened to live faithfully.
- In response to Gods Grace, we are
called to bear witness to His love, following the example
of His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
You are invited to join
with us as we worship, learn, grow, and serve in the Name
of Jesus Christ. If you are interested in uniting with Trinity,
please speak with Pastor Ekstrand or Pastor Short and arrangements
for Baptism, Transfer, or Affirmation of Faith will be made.
